Attorney Kohler’s business model is unique. Unlike most attorneys, he has not advertised in the yellow pages, news papers, on radio or television or through other media, or joined social clubs to get new clients. Over the past 39 years he has built and maintained a successful law practice the old fashioned way – by word of mouth. He has successfully relied entirely on referrals from clients and other law firms and other professionals.
It has been his philosophy that he owes his clients his best efforts and to be honest in his billing practices. Over the years he has accumulated countless mementos, thank you cards, and small gifts of appreciation from his clients. A satisfied client is the best form of advertising.
Mr. Kohler was raised on a farm in Southeastern Idaho where he learned principles of hard work, responsibility, resourcefulness and honest dealing.
He married Delene Williams, a farm girl from Driggs, Idaho. Together they raised 5 children in the Idaho Falls area. They are the proud grandparents of 15 grandchildren.
Not being able to escape his farming roots, he continues to maintain a small farming operation south of Idaho Falls. He not only finds farming fun and exciting, it also provides a great outlet from the stresses of practicing law. He employs his grandsons to help work the farm hoping they will also learn the benefits of hard work.
Jay Kohler started his law career by serving 3 consecutive terms as the prosecuting attorney in Bear Lake County, Idaho. This provided him with valuable trial experience. It also provided him with experience in working with and providing legal advise to government officials.
He founded First Idaho Title Company in 1979, and served as its president until 2003. This provided him with valuable experience in a wide variety of real estate law issues.
He taught criminal law classes for Weber State University during the time served as prosecuting attorney.
He served as a public defender for Bonneville County for 6 years during the 1980s, handling many complicated criminal cases.
He has helped numerous clients obtain fair compensation for their injuries received in automobile and other accidents.
He enjoys the practice of law and the opportunity it provides him to help his clients solve their legal and financial problems. He views an attorney’s role as that of a “problem solver,” using his education, training, legal skills, knowledge of the law, common sense, creativity and resourcefulness as his tools of trade.
